LEONARDTOWN, Maryland – The Department of Aging and Social Services has been alerted to a scam involving people claiming to represent staff at the St. Mary County Main Business Center. These callers ask seniors if they want to join a seniors club and tell seniors that they need a verbal âyesâ before they can proceed with registration.
The Department of Aging and Social Services will never call anyone to join senior activity centers unless they return a call.
To protect yourself against fraudulent calls, consider following these steps –
⢠If you do not recognize the phone number, do not answer the phone. You can always call back.
⢠Don’t say yes and hang up if you think something is wrong, even if you end the call.
⢠If you answer a call and think it is a scam, tell the caller you will call them back. If you need to speak to someone for help after receiving a suspected scam call, you can reach the Department of Aging and Social Services, dial 301-475-4200, ext. 1050.
Your safety is our priority, if you require further information or assistance please contact the Department of Aging and Human Services at 301-475-4200 ext. 1050.
