There is an abundance of fall and winter activities at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum in Chanhassen this year.
From 5km runs with dogs and holiday sales to winter light displays, there’s something for everyone at the Arboretum, 3675 Arboretum Drive.
ArBORetum, Oct. 31 8 am-6pm: Visitors wearing Halloween costumes enter for free; 10:30 am story time in the library, children receive apples and treats at different stations. Children 15 and under are always free at the Arb.
Fall About Dogs 5K, November 3: Bring your favorite canine companion to the second annual 5K Arboretum Fall About Dogs Run / Walk. The paved course winds through the scenic Three-Mile Drive landscape, guiding participants through 20 plant collections and three gardens. Entry to the race includes entry to the Arboretum, a long-sleeved running t-shirt and a 10% discount in the Gift & Garden Store on race day. Children between the ages of 5 and 12 can enter the Doggy Dash, a fun 1 km run around the Grace B. Dayton Wildflower Garden. Runners / walkers without dogs are also welcome. Arboretum member: $ 30, non-members $ 45, free for children 15 and under.
Join the Arb as it lights up the gardens on dark winter days. The Arb keeps things comfortable and bright. Stroll through the holiday lights, sip tea, meet Santa for cookies, and celebrate the New Year.
Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony, November 21: Get into the holiday spirit for the unveiling of the Arboretum’s 25-foot poinsettia with countdown, live music and light up the trees in the Great Hall to kick off the Winter Lights season. Be the first to see the new extended displays of Winter Lights. Enjoy hot chocolate and cookies. $ 10 member / $ 25 non-member / $ 5 children 15 and under. Registration, arbwinter.umn.edu.
Winter lights, November 22-Jan. 5 p.m., 5 p.m.-9 p.m. (plus December 23, daily from December 26 to January 2): Expanded to 14 different vignettes in its third year! Stroll the gardens with your family and friends in our botanical-themed winter light shows on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings. Learn more about the U of M factory introductions featured in the displays. Grill s’mores over a bonfire, warm up with cocoa at the Oswald Visitor Center, and admire the Arboretum’s 25-foot poinsettia, as well as towering evergreen trees lush with botanical decor and thousands of fairy lights. Hot family food available in cafe, cash bar. Arb members free, non-members $ 15, children 15 and under free.
Milk and cookies with Santa Claus, December 12 and 19, 5 pm-9pm: Munch on cookies and milk while sharing your wishlist with the Jolly Old Elf. Be sure to plan a walk through the Winter Lights exhibit. Tickets are $ 5 for children, free for adult Arboretum members, and $ 15 for non-member adults. Auxiliary Holiday Sale, from December 6 to 8: 9 am-4pm Friday, Saturday, 11 am-3pm Sunday. Find beautiful, handmade gifts from Auxiliary volunteers. Winter New Year’s Light Festival, 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on December 31: You won’t want to miss the Arboretum’s very first family New Year’s party. Walk through the Arboretum’s magical winter light show, enjoy live music from the Abiders, play games, and celebrate the countdown every hour from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets cost $ 15 for adult Arboretum members, $ 30 for adult non-members and $ 5 for all children.
