Former school now serving as a community activity center

PORT HOPE – The building that housed the Port Hope community schools has reopened as a Port Hope activity center, having been purchased by a private owner after the school closed in 2015. It has many equipment that can be used by the community.

According to its website, the Port Hope Activity Center is a Christ-centered organization that strives to create a strong, vibrant, compassionate community program that has a positive spiritual, cultural and economic impact on the surrounding community.

The old school was bought after it closed by Brian and Sarah Ingram and Andrew and Kimberly Ingram. Their vision for the Activity Center is that it will be a place where the needs of the community are met.

“It’s a great resource for our community,” said Melinda Erffmeyer, spokesperson for the Port Hope Activity Center.

“The public can rent spaces within the activity center for gatherings, classes or other events, and there are also tables and chairs that can be rented for off-site use,” he said. -she adds.

The Port Hope Activity Center will partner with programs already in place in the community and create services and opportunities to ensure that the needs of Port Hope and the surrounding area are met. Organizers hope to host a variety of activities, including recreational and athletic tournaments, fitness classes, kids’ camps, music, and tutoring and mentoring programs.

The activity center is home to many community resources, including a gym, fitness room, lending library, and computer lab. An open house for the Port Hope Activity Center is scheduled for Wednesday, September 2 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Other upcoming activities in the center include pickleball on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Thursdays from 5:30 to 8 p.m., children’s programs Tuesdays from 2 to 4 p.m. and a Beach Glass event by Christine on Saturday September 12 from noon. at 14h

The Port Hope Activity Center is currently open to the public Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and other activities take place around these set times.
