“Today’s students expect state-of-the-art learning and activity facilities,” Denson said. “This student activity center will make the Boone campus even more attractive and enhance the student experience.”

Fred Greiner, DMACC board member, retired president and COO of Fareway, and resident of Boone, said he’s seen how the Boone community has rallied around this important development project. construction.
“Our community has always been very proud of this campus, the student-athletes who have competed there, the commitment to academic excellence, the new and renovated student housing, and the overall growth of the campus,” Greiner said. “But the one thing we lacked was athletic and recreational facilities for students that made us competitive with other colleges and universities. Today I am excited and happy to say “we now have this”.
DMACC athletic director BJ McGinn said the new facility is already having a positive impact on recruiting student-athletes to the Boone campus.
“The impact that the DMACC Boone Campus Student Activity Center/Fareway Fieldhouse has had in terms of recruiting our student athletes as well as our traditional students has been astronomical,” McGinn said. “Before the new facility, potential students would often end a visit by saying they needed to see a few more schools before making a decision. More often than not, we now see from both our coaches and our campus recruiters that students are calling from the car on their way home to commit to DMACC. This new facility is a game changer.

DMACC Boone Campus Provost Dr. Drew Nelson said that when he began his role as provost in 2016, Boone Campus did not have a weight room.
“We had old recovery equipment interspersed with HVAC infrastructure on the mezzanine above the gym. We often haven’t shown this space to rookies on tours,” Nelson said. “From the outside, this new student activity center is a great welcome for people coming from the south side of town. Its presence indicates that the campus is an integral part of the community and confirms the importance of student life and athletics to those who attend the Boone campus.
The expansion project added an additional 28,500 square feet to the existing gymnasium.
All DMACC Athletics are located on the DMACC Boone campus. These sports include: men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s baseball, women’s softball and women’s volleyball.

The facility was built by DLR Architects and Baxter Construction.
